Does bible preach slavery?
No, it provides protections for the “slaves.” Slavery in the Bible is more like “indentured servitude” of today. God redeemed the Israelites from 400 years of slavery in Egypt and admonished His people, Israel, that they were not to be like other nations of the day. God’s people must treat their “servants” as part of the family. They must be given a day of rest. They must be freed after 7 years and given enough resources to be able to provide for themselves. Yes, the Bible mentions slavery, but no other nation provided such protection for slaves. You must read beyond the main topics, i.e. slavery, and eye-for-an-eye, etc. to understand how Israel differs from surrounding nations. Today, we have the death penalty on the books, but does that mean every murderer is put to death? The people of Biblical days were not idiots. The writers of the Bible were brilliant (inspired?) individuals who provided protections for all, and held leaders accountable for their actions. .
