What is Toddler Tiempo?
Singing and dancing, running and jumping, finger plays and play dough are all part of Toddler Tiempo, a bilingual class for children 3 years to 18 months old, accompanied by an adult. Creator Louisa Shepard uses basic Spanish throughout the many activities. Children learn numbers, colors, stop and go, up and down, fast and slow, animal names, and many other simple terms through the songs, chants, rhymes and games. Music in both English and Spanish is integral to the 45-minute class. Some songs are familiar, while many are original. Parents and caregivers receive a detailed description in both languages so they can easily follow along. Because young children respond well to repetition, the class is the same throughout the session. Each session follows the basic structure of the previous sessions, but will feature some new songs and activities. • “Hello/Hola,” “Goodbye/Adios” and “Good Morning/Buenos Dias” songs • Other original and familiar songs, rhymes and chants • Counting and colors
