What is sensory impairment?
A child suffering from sensory impairment will usually have a problem with one of more of their senses. Most commonly when talking about sensory impairment we refer to sight and hearing, but it can also include issues in relation to smell, touch, taste and spatial awareness. What help can I receive? A wide range of services are available including: • advice to help make life easier and guide you in the direction of relevant services • the provision of equipment to help with everyday tasks such as preparing food • adaptations to your home that can help your child manage important daily activities more easily • assistance with personal communication to reduce difficulties your child may have with reading, writing and hearing • helping with mobility to ensure your child is able to move around in or outside your home.
