Why Are Newspapers Faring So Poorly?
For anyone interested in the news business, its hard to avoid the sense that newspapers are at deaths door. Every day brings more news of layoffs, bankruptcies, and closings in the print journalism industry. But why are things so dire for newspapers at the moment? The answer is connected to the advent of radio and later TV, when newspaper circulation began a gradual but steady decline. And it has to do with the emergence of the internet and the recent recession, which have only magnified the problem. There are lots of opinions about what can be done to save newspapers.
