What is Starlight?
Starlight is a visual information system designed to capture and graphically portray relationships among multiple pieces of information of various types, such as text documents, database records, images, maps, and Web pages. The primary goal of this research is to develop techniques that enable people to better and more quickly comprehend the contents of very large, complex, and heterogeneous information collections. The general approach we’re taking is to, first, capture these relationships in ways that closely approximate the ways in which humans naturally relate information, and second, to generate graphical depictions of the relationship structures to make them easier to understand.
