Why was MOFD formed?
Orinda joined with Moraga to form MOFD in order to improve service and gain local control. In 1997, an overwhelming percentage (83%) of Orinda voters voiced resounding support for merging with Moraga’s top-notch fire department. Prior to 1997, Orinda’s emergency services were under the auspices of the county-controlled Orinda Fire District. Since the formation of MOFD, Orinda residents have benefited from dedicated firefighters and paramedics who know our community and its circuitous roadways and are positioned to respond to a 911 call within five minutes.
