What is the backlight?
The backlights within the LCD mainly servers as illumination source for the display. Most of all backlight for the LCD display are based on fluorescent lamps and it consists of a phosphor coated glass cylinder with cathodes at each end. Both gas and mercury are filled within the cylinder then when the correct current is supplied to the cathodes an arc is formed in the gas. Therefor, produces ultraviolet light (UV) then which excites the phosphor on the glass.
