DOES EVERY MAN DESIRE HAPPINESS?
It seems that not all desire happiness. 1. No one can desire what he does not know, for it is the good as known that is the object of desire. But many do not know what happiness is, for as Augustine says, “Some have maintained happiness consists in pleasures of the body, some thought it consisted in virtue of the soul, and some in other things.” Therefore not all desire happiness. 2. The essence happiness is the vision of the divine essence, as we have stated. But some consider it impossible for man to see God in His essence, and hence do not desire it.
