How Thorough Are Army Physicals?
I think there is about a 90% chance that those conditions would have been detected. My physical was in 1965 and it was a very complete physical even though they examined about (I’m guessing here) 100 people at the same time with about maybe 5 Army doctors and assistants. Backs were checked carefully because as I understood it, back injury claims were frequent with active duty personnel. The exit physical was individual with one Navy doctor and was also extensive. I saw people rejected for very trivial reasons in my opinion, but I was a chubby, not very athletic teenager who came through with flying colors. My jock friends all had flat feet and bad backs! But I later enlisted in the Navy and wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
