Who should NOT take aspirin?
You should not take aspirin if you have certain medical conditions or are taking certain medications. Talk to your doctor if you: • Are allergic to aspirin. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to other arthritis or pain medications. • Are taking other medications that thin the blood (anticoagulants, such as warfarin). • Are taking nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medications. • Have uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure). • Are regularly taking other medications that contain aspirin. Aspirin is an ingredient in many over-the-counter drugs. To prevent an overdose of aspirin, read the labels of other pain relievers and cold products to make sure they are aspirin-free. • Have a bleeding disorder (such as hemophilia), stomach ulcer, liver or kidney disease or anemia. • Are breastfeeding, pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. • Are going to have surgery or an invasive procedure (even some dental procedures).
