Can I add more RAM to any laptop?
Okay, you have a multy part question. First, you need to research the laptop to see what the maximum amount of allowable RAM it can handle. 1024 may be the upper limit. Next, you need to know if it does allow more RAM, wether or not it has the available slot. For all of this go to 1800memory.com. They have a program you can install that will answer your questions. Keep in mind that not all RAM is compatible with all systems. Only use what is recommended. Also beware that using old RAM may introduce viruses which can be embedded into the RAM chips non-volatile memory. Also, most laptops come with only one RAM slot, so you may need to replace the chip, rather than just add on. Hope this helps.
As mentioned above, the first option should be for you to ask the supplier for the extra RAM you need. Most of them will bump it up to 2GB for extra money. The second option is to buy the memory from elsewhere and fit it in yourself (or get someone to do it). This is only worth doing if you know someone who knows what they are doing and the cost of the memory directly from the supplier is prohibitive. Check memory suppliers such as crucial http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listmfgr… where you can specify the laptop model and they tell you what sort of RAM you will need. You are usually better off paying the extra for it to be fitted by the supplier and have everything covered under warranty.
