What is STCW?

0

If you are new to yachting, you are probably not familiar with the term, STCW. This abbreviation stands for: Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. Most yachtsmen are STCW certified. This means that they have paid for, and attended a set of 4 basic courses that cover the following areas of: • Personal Survival • Fire Fighting • First Aid & CPR • Personal Safety & Social Responsibility Many yachts now require all of their crew to be STCW certified, especially yachts that charter. Some privately operated vessels may consider individuals that have not yet attended these courses. NOTE: It is a statement of your seriousness and motivation about yachting if you enroll yourself into these courses. A new-to-industry crew member that already holds STCW certificates is a step ahead of many. You can find many STCW and various industry related courses (both basic and advanced), if you go through the internet.
