Why is Elizabeth 1st so famous?
Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of Henry VIII. Her mother was Anne Boleyn who was executed 3 years after her birth. She is famous because she was queen for over 40 years. Her reign as Queen was known as Britain’s golden age. She was responsible for setting up the “English Protestant church” holding the position of Supreme Governor. This would later become the Church of England as we know it today. Queen Elizabeth I is also famous for for her virginity. She never produced a child of her own. This has lead to her been named the Virgin Queen. She reigned during the Spanish armada in 1588. This is seen as one of England’s greatest victories. During her era she is famous for the flourishing of English drama with play writers such as William Shakespear and Christopher Marlowe all contributing to the boom.
