Who pursues further education?
Butlin (2000) delves further into the question of who continues on for further education in his study of 1990 Bachelor’s graduates from the NGS two and five years after graduation. He selects graduates who are under 26 years old, have high school as their previous level of education, and finish their Bachelor’s degree in six years or less and estimates how the socio-demographic and enrolment factors affect the chances of continuing a post-secondary education. Butlin finds that three in five Bachelor’s graduates pursue some further education within five years of graduating, the majority of these within two years of graduation. About one third of these take Master’s or Doctoral programs, and the rest take programs at the Bachelor’s level, the College/trade vocational level, the university certificate/ diploma level or the professional level.
