What is Eclampsia?
Eclampsia is a condition – that is life threatening and needs immediate treatment and attention. This condition occurs in females and late during pregnancy or during lactation. It is also more common in small breeds such as Chihuahuas. The signs are: * Nervous panting, followed by vomiting and disorientation * Increased body temperature and twitching muscles are a dangerous sign of this condition! * Convulsions – The last stage before death of the pet with Eclampsia This condition appears to be caused by a depletion of calcium. It is common for breeders to use calcium supplements during thier bitches’ pregnancy to ward off this serious condition. However, this MUST be done carefully as the balance could b upset. It is very wise to discuss this with your vet prior to giving it to your pregnant Chihuahua. If this happens, get your Chihuahua to the Vet *PRONTO* for an injection of Vitamin D or Calcium. This is an EMERGENCY!
