How Do Ski Bindings Work?
A ski binding basically is an accessory which fastens the ski boot to the ski. Usually there are different kinds of bindings for different forms of skiing. The huge variety of bindings used for Alpine Skiing work by attaching the ski boot to the ski at the toe and heel. The binding is fixed to the ski boot in order to avoid injury. Binding are usually sold alone so that they can be fixed on top of flat skis or come as integrated systems. Alpine ski bindings make use of the snow brake so that the ski does not shift when fixed to the boot. Present day ski bindings apply the Fennoscandian model which was created in the 19th century, whereas the binding of Telemark ski and cross-country skis were created on the basis of the Ugro-Lapp type.
