How is LADA diagnosed?
People who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes but do not require insulin, have a blood test for pancreatic autoantibodies called GAD (short for glutamic acid decarboxylase. The results of the blood test will help distinguish people with LADA from people with type 2 diabetes. There are no universal recommendations regarding GAD testing in adult onset diabetes, and currently in the UK, testing for GAD is not routinely available.
