Why Two-Way MMDS?
Two-way MMDS is now considered a key new broadband access technology for service providers that want to get high-speed Internet access connections up quickly, inexpensively and without leasing lines from incumbent network operators. A wireless broadband hub can be deployed quickly and service for customers can be turned up within a matter of hours because service providers need only install and activate antennas at central and customer locations; no wires need be laid nor leased. Broadband fixed wireless is also attractive in that service providers need only invest in network infrastructure after customers sign on. By comparison, DSL requires what are often lengthy negotiations with incumbents to lease copper, and both DSL and high-speed cable modem network operators have to build out two-way systems to all customers and then hope subscribers will sign on to their services.
