What is the Progressive High School, and exactly what kind of students attend classes there?
The Progressive High School is a school of choice developed to serve students who are academically capable, but at-risk for non-completion of high school. This could include students who have missed school due to family and personal problems, students who have trouble focusing in a traditional classroom, or students who are at-risk of dropping out because they have fallen too far behind in academic credits. For many of those students, the Progressive High School offers a real option. A non-traditional instructional program allows students to work on their own at an accelerated pace. The ultimate goal is for students to meet all graduation requirements, including passing TAAS within four semesters. Students must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of five credits. A personal interview with the principal is required, and students must demonstrate a genuine desire to finish their high school education.
