Whos the favorite to win the DVL?
La Quinta should be considered the favorite because of its past domination and current success. “There’s no doubt that I would call them the favorite,” Palm Springs coach Steve Fabian said. The Blackhawks have won three of the last four DVL titles, and Palm Springs was the only DVL team to beat them during that span — 31-7 in 2008. La Quinta (4-1) is piling up victories again this year. The team has risen to No. 2 in the latest CIF Southern Section Central Division rankings by beating such teams as No. 3 Colton and No. 5 Arlington. Its five preseason opponents have a combined 19-3 record, not including games against the Blackhawks. Other ranked DVL teams are striving to knock off the Blackhawks, but need to improve in certain areas. No. 4 Palm Springs (4-1) has some of the most dynamic athletes in the desert in running backs Nephi Garcia and Nick King, but Fabian said they need more consistent blocking from the offensive line.
