When can baby start having juice?

You can start offering small amounts of juice any time after 6 months if baby can drink from a cup. (You never put juice in a bottle.) But baby never really *needs* juice — so if he’ll drink water from the cup, all the better. EDIT: Gerber juice has no less sugar than any other brand — ALL fruit juice (as opposed to ‘juice drinks/beverages/etc.) is pure juice with no added sugar. And it’s recommended to not put juice in a bottle because it’s easy for baby to take too much via the bottle, and the bottle is, essentially, a subsitute for the breast — so it’s for milk. (Applejuice doesn’t spout from your breasts.) Starting juice is part of starting other non-milk foods; it’s about teaching baby a new way of eating/drinking.

I started giving my son watered down baby juice when he was about ten months. It all depends on how the baby is taking to baby food as well. Start with just a little once in the day and check the stool to make sure that the babys’ stomic can handle it.

You can start as early as 4 months but if you give too much juice or water the baby will not thrive as much because juice has less nutritional value than its equal volume of milk. It is recommended that you breast feed exclusively for 6 months.
