What Are Website Hits?
Many people when viewing the stats of their website believe “hits” to be what constitute a person actually visiting the website, this though isn’t entirely correct. Also in the stats should be “visits”, these are what most people commonly think of as “hits”, “visits” increase by 1 when someone visits the website. Lets say your visit statistic reads 457 for a day and then somebody visits the site while your reading it, when you then refresh the pages the count will read 458, this isn’t true for “hits”. A “hit” is when an item is viewed, an item is the text on a page or a graphic etc, so for example lets say you have a one page website and on your website you have just text then someone visiting the site will be classed as 1 “hit” as they are viewing one item which is the text. If your site has text and an image then when someone views the website this will be registered as 2 hits because the text is one hit and the image is another hit.
