The phloem and xylem are two tissues that compose the plant vascular system. The secondary growth of the xylem and phloem depends on cells dividing in the vascular cambium. The xylem is a system of tubes. In these tubes, a transportation of cells help moves water through the plant and dissolves minerals the plants don’t need. The phloem is the transportation system for molecules and sugars that are created by the plant. The sugars in plants happens because the leaves of a plant are green and causes photosynthesis. Without either of these two cell types in plants, they will die.
