How does Urchin work?
Web servers used by hosting companies, e-businesses, etc., create large amounts of data recording the exact usage of the server by the Web surfing public. As a visitor to a Web site clicks on various hyperlinks and travels through a site, each step is recorded by the server in a logfile. Urchin processes these Webserver logfiles generated by server software such as Apache, Netscape, and Microsoft IIS. After processing the logfiles, Urchin creates data sets with site information for every user on the system. It then creates detailed HTML-based reports that can be viewed with any modern browser.
