Are politicians becoming bland?
I don’t know if I’d call it the ‘fun going out of politics’. I think I’d say many of our political figures lack personality. Not that they don’t have personalities. I’m sure they do. But they are public figures and they put on a public face. Their job depends on whether or not their constituents want them there. Everything they do is under public scrutiny. So they’re gonna do their damnedest not to rile any feathers, not to say anything stupid. Because in this era of sound bites and out-of-context quotes, they can easily fall victim to the publics’ appetite for controversy and the media’s appetite for something that’ll keep people watching. To add to that, all the profiling and pooling and opinion gathering done by both parties in attempt to figure out that happy medium of issues that will gain them the most votes. A happy medium that they repeat and repeat, because that’s what’s gonna get them the most votes, not necessarily what they feel most passionately about. It’d be nice if poli
