What is the best snake pet?
I must admit that your question bemuses me a little. You just ruled out all of the best pet snakes, for beginners anyway. Corn snakes and King snakes are lovely creatures, especially when adult size. If you don’t like the hatchling stages, you can easily get adult corn snakes. Royals are lovely snakes, but they can go off food for no reason for months. They are normally fine about this, but can be very stressful for the first time keeper. Rosy Boas are good starter snakes. They are quite small snakes, that would probably do well in a 2ftx2ft vivarium when adult, and are a joy to handle. However, they have special humidity requirements. The humidity in their enclosure must be as close to zero as possible, so keepers often only leave a water bowel in the viv for a few nights a week, or let them have a quick soak in the bath where they can drink if they want.
