Is fishing an expensive hobbie?

It depends on how much stuff you need or want and the quality of equipment you want. Me and my dad have thousands of dollars worth of equipment and that doesn’t even count the boat and motors. However if you just want to go fishing and catch a few you can get the equipment needed for fairly cheap. 1 I would start with an Ugly Stik spinning rod, they typically run about 30 bucks, and a spinning reel you feel comfortable with. The best thing to do is go to your local sporting goods store and play with the demo models until you find something you are comfortable with. Most of these stores will also string the reel for you for a few dollars, but if they don’t I’d recommend buying monofiliment line it is inexpensive and easy to use in fact most of what i use is monofiliment. You’ll also need a variety of smaller supplies including hooks, sinkers (split shots are your best bet), a depth finder, maybe lures and probably a bobber (slip bobbers are my preference) or two and of course some bait.
