The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The MYP does not tell a school what to teach students; rather it is an approach to learning that is student-centered. What does this mean? Well, it means that at Wawona we still teach all of the state-required content standards, but how we approach the learning process is a little different. Students are made aware of their learning style and multiple intelligences- after all, “everyone is smart at something”. The key to life is discovering how you learn best and what your special talents are. This makes life fun. The MYP does require that students become well-rounded individuals by taking a variety of classes in eight subject areas.
