What are chihuahuas like?
They are not what Like everyone describes they are. Snippy, Annoying, bark allot, divas. Allot of Chihuahua’s are different and you can’t say they all are the same. They are loyal to their master/mistress and they do have a tendency to bark allot but there is nothing that can’t be fixed. They are shaky when they are cold so they need jackets in cold weather. Even though they are small dogs they need exercise too. Really all the exercise they need a day is 10 min throwing a ball around. The only reason they are not good around kids is that kids are loud and have to touch everything and can play rough with the chihuahua so it has to defend itself but if the child is good with the chihuahua then so will it be nice back… vice versa. They are little so they will need little crate less food, less water, treats, smaller bowls, beds, toys, and of course less money. Owning a Chihuahua cost’s 10$ a week, 40$. The estimate for the cost of keeping a chihuahua is 480$ a year, that is very very ma
Mine is very protective of me. She is very sweet, calm, and loving around people she knows and likes. She was abused as a puppy, we got her at 7wks and still to this day she doesn’t like men. The only man she feels safe around is my husband, and even then she has her days where she doesn’t want him to even look at her! She is very skittish because of this. It took me 6months to get her to come to people who want to hold/pet her. Normally she would try to come up to them and they’d make a sudden movement, and that would cause her to run away and hide. I work with her everyday to socialize her more and more. I don’t think she’s like most Chi’s due to being abused. I’m the only one that can get her to go into her cage when it’s bed time, if my husband tries to, she runs and hides under the couch. I don’t know what the guy did to her, but I hate that it made her this weary of men, and strangers. I love her more than anything, and everyday is a step forward for her, I’m so proud of how far
Extremely cute and loveable. Work well for apartments because they don’t need much room to run around and don’t need to be walked. Great with children (they like a lot of attention, and kids give it to them). They have some drawbacks though… First of all, it’s impossible to keep them from barking. They yelp all the time for the smallest of reasons. Second, they are strictly a 1-person dog. Even if you live with someone else, they will become superprotective of just one of the people… so much so that you get near him/her and they will growl, then bark and maybe bite you on reflex, even if you’ve lived with them their entire lives. Third, they are a small breed which has a lot of health problems like asthma after a few years. Great dogs, and I loved the one I had, but you should take this info into consideration.
