Are there any infamous Vanderlips?
George Vanderlip of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada was convicted of manslaughter. This text is from the Thorold Post, September 1, 1876. “The coroner’s inquest on the body of Roger Murphy, who was killed at the Crystal Springs Hotel in St. Catherines, held on the 30th ult., disclosed the facts that the deceased visited the hotel in the morning and asked Vanderlip about his money, after which an altercation took place between them and they were parted by some bystanders. Deceased moved away through a shed and Vanderlip went into the bar room, secured a large hickory club about three feet long, and dealt Murphy a powerful blow on the back of the head, and two more on the head and face as he lay on the ground.
