What makes vodka kosher or not?
Naturally vodka by itself is kosher but most flavored vodkas have additives in them that are not. Since ours is made from fresh fruit and vegetable and has no gluten, no chemicals, and no additives, there’s nothing in there that is not already kosher. Was it important to you that the vodka you made be kosher or was it just better for business? Before coming to New York I had many prejudices against all different kinds of people, but now I have close friends from all different backgrounds and get along with any kind of person and love that. Once we started Maiko 2 I met a lot of Jewish people since ninety-percent of our customers there were Jewish and they were all wonderful, smart, and kind people. Some of them really helped us out with promoting our restaurant and without them we may not have made it. Now with the vodka business, we have almost all Jewish people working with us.
