Who are the Mandan indian tribe?
The Mandan Indian Tribe together with Hidatsa Indian Tribe and Arikara Nation have formed the Three Affiliated Tribes. This Native American Tribe migrated near Ohio River and has settled along the Missouri River. The language of Mandan Indian Tribe belongs to the Siouan language family, and later the Euro-Americans compared the Mandan language with Welsh language. George Catlin supported a theory about the connection between the Mandan and Welsh language. In 1837-1838 the Mandan tribe was hit by a smallpox epidemic which reduced the population number. This epidemic ,also, hit the Hidatsa and Arikara tribes. The history records say that only 125 people survived, and they joined the survivors from Hidatsa and Arikara tribes, and they settled in a new village named Like-a-Fishhook Village. This village was abandoned in 1880. When Lake Sakakawea was created this region was flooded, and the village has lost.
