Answer Dear Bhupesh, the chemical called Liver of Sulfur or Potash of Sulfur is used regularly to bring dark patina to silver. The patina from application does not change to green in time. The chemical is relatively stable, is not reactive in air and does not require hazardous shipping container or surcharges in transportation. I am not chemist but believe the chemicals are confused between the weak liver of sulfur and the more reactive potassium sulfide. Potassium sulfide is in many forms and designations, with some of it dangerous because of spontaneous combustion. Is some forms, the chemical will burst into flame simply from contact with air. Liver of Sulfur is a crude and unrefined form and is not prone to creating fire. It is considered a safe chemical.
