How does this project differ from other LNG regas terminals that have been proposed for the Gulf of Mexico?
TORP’s Bienville Terminal differs substantially from any other project that has been proposed to date. First, its location far from shore and in deep water sets it apart. The fact that it consists of two small, floating HiLoad units rather than a large gravity based structure (GBS) also means that Bienville Terminal has a much smaller physical footprint. The HiLoads have been engineered to have the smallest environmental impact of any offshore LNG project so far proposed for the central Gulf, from utilizing smaller mesh screens on water intakes to using low-impact water pumps, from exposing entrained particles to cold water for a shorter period, to using more efficient shell and tube vaporizers. In addition, the Bienville Terminal is the only facility that will make use of a closed loop cleaning system, meaning that no chlorides will be discharged into the Gulf. And, as Bienville will use warm Gulf water to regas LNG rather than burning gas, it also means that the air emissions are gre
