There’s been a lot of talk about the safety of LNG. How safe is LNG?
The LNG industry has operated safely around the world for many decades. LNG is not stored under pressure, and LNG is not explosive. According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), neither LNG nor its vapor can explode in an unconfined environment. There has not been a serious incident attributed to LNG in the U.S. since 1944, before the storage of cryogenic liquids was fully understood. Today, LNG is transported and stored as safely as any other liquid fuel.
