Why does America need LNG?
America’s demand for natural gas is outpacing domestic supply, as well as available Canadian supply. Demand for natural gas is increasing because of its clean-burning characteristics, especially for producing electricity. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, by 2030, the gap between demand and supply is projected to reach 21%–and this gap can be filled by the import of LNG. The department says that LNG imports must increase by more than 500% in order to meet U.S. natural gas demand in 2030.
