National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) are work-based qualifications that assess the skills and knowledge people need to perform their role effectively. N/SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards (NOS), which define what the candidate (learner) must be able to do, how well they must do these things, and the circumstances in which they have to use their knowledge and understanding.
