What is it Exif?
Besides using Jpeg modern cameras respect 2 general standards: If you use a converter that strips Exif thumbnails, you loose the speed. Think of it if the thumbnail generation takes too long. • Exif standard describes how to store thumbnails and meta information (camera name, exposure time, notes…) All this information is stored somewhere around the top of the jpeg file. Exif thumbnail is usually again a jpeg with the dimensions 160×120. It is a small “image in image” that can be used for fast preview or thumbnails. Some cameras do not produce them for vertical images. In the absence of Exif information the thumbnails must be synthesized from the whole image, which takes a long time. • DCF standard describes where to store the photos: It specifies /DCIM folder and the image names should look like “10110003.jpg”.
