It depends where you go to in Costa Adeje. Half of Playa de las Americas has been renamed to Costa Adeje, it was formerly Torviscas. Some of the lower rated hotels remain in Torviscas and some of the higher rated hotels have miraculously moved into Costa Adeje. The hotels that have been built in the new part of Costa Adeje are very luxurious, mainly four star deluxe and five star. Sheraton, Riu, Ritz Carlton have all built hotels in the area. The proper resort of Costa Adeje is not hilly however hotels that were previously situated in Torviscas can be up hill (or down if you’re going to the beach). Costa Adeje however is situated on the coast as the name suggests. Costa is the Spanish for coast, The beaches are nice and restaurants and bars in the area are upmarket rather than the typical Tenerife lager lout bar. If you’re looking for a more luxurious side of Tenerife then this is the area to go to. And incidentally, Tenerife is definitely not as expensive as mainland Spain unless you
