Whats the best motherboard?”
Whenever I hear a question like that, the first thing I ask is “What are you going to do with the computer?” Graphics, gaming, sound processing, file server? 6-8 GB of RAM makes me think you’re going to be using the computer as a file server unless you’re going with either Linux/Unix or Windows 64bit (I don’t know anything about Macs). 32 bit Windows can’t utilize more than about 3.5GB. Here’s what I do when I’m shopping around for a new motherboard: I go to NewEgg.com and search for motherboards then put in whatever specifics I’m looking for, e.g. Intel. Then I read the reviews. Unlike other sites that censor feedback, NewEgg allows negative responses, i.e. pro and con. I read a few dozen reviews for each motherboard to help me narrow down the selection. I only search for motherboards once I know what I’m going to be using the computer for.
