Was Robin Hood real or a myth?

Try checking out the Robin Hood web site: http://www.boldoutlaw.com Apparently it was a generic name for outlaws in the region for a couple of hundred years. He was first mentioned in Piers Plowman, and in one sense there is nothing generic about the mention — that is a devotional poem and he’s praying for protection from him. So we can assume he was talking about a specific individual, but Robin Hood was a threat for a long time, and it wasn’t until it was common for common people to learn to read and write that he began getting his makeover.
