When did the first crusade end?
I’ll tell you both the reasoning behind the First crusade and also when it concluded. 1. What was it about? The First Crusade was ordered by the French Pope Urban the II in 1095 AD, with the aim of re-capturing Jerusalem from the infidels and freeing eastern christians from Islamic rule. Alexius the I of Constantinople was in dire need of aid against muslim forces and Urban decided that calling a “crusade” could benefit the Byzantine Empire through military assistance. Pilgrims were also denied the right to visit the holy lands consequently resulting in urban’s orders to commence this assault. Additionally, the Pope declared that everyone who participated would have their sins revoked and they would obtain a place in heaven. Europe – being very religious at this time, explains why so many people joined in for this holy cause. Four commanders dedicated themselves to this challenge – Duke Bohemond of Taranto, Duke Robert of England, Count Raymond the IV of Toulouse and Hugh Count of Verm
