How Do You Chop Onions With Only A Knife?

• Place the onion on your cutting board with the root end facing away from you. • Slice the onion in half through the middle of the root end so that some of the root remains on each half. • Slice off the end opposite the root end but leave the root end intact. • Remove the papery skin from each half of the onion. • Place one half of the onion, flat side down on the cutting board. • Using a sharp knife, make several slices down through all layers of the onion, starting approximately 1/4 inch away from the root, making sure to leave the root intact so that it holds all of the layers of the onion together while you are slicing it. • Starting from the end opposite the root, slice perpendicular to your previous slices. Repeat with the other half of the onion.
