What is done to prevent graffiti?
Retailers who sell spray paint to children under the age of 16 face fines of up to £1,000. The Antisocial Behaviour (Scotland) Act also means that retailers who sell spray paint are required to display notices, in a prominent position, setting out that it is illegal to sell spray paint to under 16s. The ban on the sale of spray paint to under 16s by itself will not prevent graffiti, but it is a practical measure to control the misuse of spray paints by children. Enforcement of the ban should be in line with annual, routine inspection plans of local authority trading standards teams.
