How Do You Build A Stucco House?
A stucco house has an interesting exterior, but this isn’t its best feature. Stucco is an excellent material for the outside of a home in a hot, dry climate because it keeps the interior of the home cooler. Stucco is cement mixed with additives specific to the needs of the climate and the look the homeowner wants. Begin with a traditionally built, wood-frame house, what is often called “stick-built” in the homebuilding industry. To build your own home you need house plans, land to build on and a construction loan. Hire a general contractor who is experienced in building stucco homes and a stucco mason whose work you’ve seen on other stucco homes in your area. Build a wooden lattice onto the exterior walls so the stucco will have something to adhere to when you apply it. You may also consider installing a wire mesh to the exterior walls, since this won’t tend to rot if the stucco absorbs a lot of moisture, such as after a rain. Mix pigments in with your stucco so you never need to paint
