Why Are Calcium-rich Foods Important?
• Get 1,200 mg of calcium each day. One serving of milk (1 cup) equals 300 mg. of calcium. • Include dairy foods with added vitamin D in your daily diet. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Sources of Vitamin D are fortified low-fat or nonfat dairy foods, and fatty salt-water fish like salmon. • Calcium Supplements: If you are not eating enough calcium rich foods, use calcium supplements. Calcium carbonate is a good supplement, and should be taken with a meal. • Be physically active every day.
