What is a “flex-wing” microlight?

0

Microlights originated in the 1970s from hanggliders with the addition of a small engine. These aircraft have a hangglider-type wing and control is by means of delta bar, attached to the wing. These early microlights were not regulated and anyone could build one, and this led inevitably to many accidents. Eventually the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) stepped in and a set of regulations was brought in from the early 1980s to regulate and control microlights. All microlights in the UK now operate under the BMAA (British Microlight Aircraft Association), which itself is regulated by the CAA.
