How often does molting occur?
Parakeets molt at least once a year. However, this can vary from one bird to the other and in some cases parrot molting can occur once every six months. This keeps their feathers healthy and attractive for potential mates. Baby parakeets molt around the age of 12 weeks. Keep a watch on how often your parakeet loses feathers and you will be able to estimate their molting schedule. Sometimes, a molt can be triggered due to illness, parasites, breeding, or a change of seasons.
