What are student-led conferences?
Student-led conferences allow students to become actively involved in reporting their progress as learners to their parents. Students first meet one-on-one with their teachers to discuss their performance in class, strengths, and areas in which to grow. Next, they create a Power Point presentation to share with their parents during the conference, highlighting their achievements, successes, and challenge areas. In addition, students select pieces of work from each class, of which they are exceptionally proud, and build a portfolio to exhibit during their conference. Students take a leading role during conference discussions, communicating and accepting responsibility for their progress, setting goals for themselves for the upcoming trimester, and demonstrating a growing understanding of themselves as independent learners.
