What is a phone unlocker?

0

When you buy a mobile phone from a network provider, usually the provider will ‘lock’ the phone so only a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card that they issue may be used in the phone. This is becuase mobile phones are extremely expensive when brought ‘SIM free’ (brought from the manufacturer or a phone shop). When brought from a network provider, they are heavily discounted (usually the phone will cost around 10% to 50% of the retail price). So – mobile operators lock the phone to try and make you stay with them – hence more profit for them! A phone unlocker will allow you to use any SIM card in the phone. The unlocker can be a piece of software on a PC that you connect to the phone, or you can buy stand-alone devices. Hope this helped, Chris.
